Rosetta E. Jones Strain

Born:  8 February 1893 - Ben Wheeler, Texas
Died:  10 October 1966 - Rusk State Hospital, Rusk, Cherokee, Texas
Father:  Archie Jones
Mother:  Mary Alice (Unknown)
Spouse:  John Anthony B. Strain

 

Rosetta Strain was born to the union of Archie Jones and his wife Mary Alice Jones.  She was the third child born to this union at Ben Wheeler, Texas.
She secured her public school education.  She attended Texas College in Tyler, Texas and received her B.S. Degree from Prairie View College.
She joined Prairie Creek C.M.E. Church at an early age.  She began her professional school work in Van Zandt County.  She also taught in Henderson County.  She was united in marriage to the late J.A.B. Strain of this city.
After their marriage she began teaching in the Palestine City School system where she taught until her health failed.
She was a refined, cultured and progressive teacher.  Always congenial and agreeable.  She united with  Saint Paul Church of this city and also worked with Cotrell Chapel.
To this union there were two children reared in the home until their marriage.
After the death of her husband, she obtained residence in Los Angeles, California.  Joined the neighborhood church of the A.M.E. Faith where she worked in the church until her health failed.  She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Barbara Roberts, Mrs. Naomi Walton of Palestine; two brothers, Mr. J.D. Jones, Los Angeles, California; Mr. James V. Jones of Texas; two sisters, Mrs. Dealva Hallman of Texas; Mrs. Ora Green of California; and a host of relations and friends to mourn her loss.
